A series of popular games published by PlayFirst the diner dash games series has become somewhat of a legacy for this casual game publisher.
It all started with the creation of Diner Dash back in 2004. This hectic time management game saw a girl named Flo start her own restaurant business after becoming fed up of a day to day boring stock broker job.
Players control Flo around the diner and must serve as many customers as possible in a short period of time. The more customers are served and the faster the rate of service the more money the customer earns to upgrade their diner. Diner Dash full version was a very simplistic game but at the same time very addictive, the ability to pick up and put down the game in a space of an hour made it an instant casual hit with the game requiring little time to play and have fun. The environment variables include different customers with short and long patience spans, varying table sizes, coloured seats and customer numbers. These variables provide the player with enough variety to keep maintain a good level of interest and excitement.
There are now a total of 6 Diner Dash games as of December 2009. Others include 'A Flo Through Time' and 'Flo On The Go'.
There have also been many spin off's and other related games as PlayFirst have gone beyond the Diner Dash series to produce a whole collection of games based around Diner Town itself. Other popular games include Cooking Dash and Wedding Dash with both of these games already spawning sequels. Another recent addition is Hotel Dash which sees Flo check in customers and move up and down different floors using elevators.
All diner dash games listed above represent the latest collection of the games published by Play First, as more become available we will list them here.
Wedding Dash is a Diner Town game which sees Flo's friend Quinn get lumbered with the responsibility of planning her friend's wedding. Having sought comfort and encouragement from Flo Quinn decides to take action and become the best wedding planner in Diner Town.
Becoming a wedding planner involves more than just serving food to customers like in Diner Dash. This time round Quinn must control other people such as a waitress who will serve food for Quinn and deliver presents to the bride and groom. You also have to choose the right menu for the bride and groom to gain additional points, so should you overlook a particular request you can miss out on points.
Wedding Dash has a bit more going on in the background than Diner Dash with customers and guests becoming more animated in what they can do. For example once guests have eaten they usually get up for a dance! Also they arrive with gifts that must be given to the Bride and Groom by the waitress to keep everyone happy.
In another follow on to Diner Dash - Pet Shop Hop, you control Cassie another one of Flo's friends. As with many Diner Town games there is hero and a villain. This time Cassie must save her grandparents pet shop from being taken over by a faceless pet company called MegaPet who are motivated purely by profits and wish to buy and bulldoze down the small pet store. Cassie steps in to take control of the store and turn it around so her grandparents don't have to sell it. This time the animation is different with a 3D character approach adopted as opposed to the Diner Dash games where all animation is done in a quirky 2d sketch style. It work's pretty well.
Pet Shop Hop is good fun and simply changing the theme of each Diner Town follow on game works really well for PlayFirst, it doesn't take much to keep casual gamers' interested in the Diner Town games. You will find in many games like Pet Shop Hop little is ever changed about the game dynamics, simply the basic environment and characters are altered.
Parking Dash is one of the best follow ups to the Diner Town Games, the graphics are fantastic and the idea behind multi task parking is great. This is a game that really shines in the Diner Town series. You play as another of Flo's friends Karma. Here Karma inherits a plot of land from her deceased uncle and just as she is about to sell it to a greedy business man Flo steps in with a better idea for Karma.
Suggesting she turns it into a parking lot Karma brushes aside the greedy business man to start up her own parking lot and valet service. Here customers arrive and give you their cars to park. As Karma you must manage the car parking spaces effectively to ensure the fastest flow of customers possible. It's another example of how a simple theme change can mean many extra hours of fun for casual gaming fans.
One of the challenges of Parking Dash is that you can sometimes have cars parked behind others you wish to reverse out to deliver back to your customers. In which case you have to shuffle the cars about to be able to deliver the right car to the right customer. This means the extra challenge of managing your space and time smartly as well as quickly.
